Cellulosic Biomass Conversion via Liquid Metal Catalysis

Liquid metal catalysis can be utilized as both heat transfer and catalytic agent for conversion of complex and contaminated feedstocks to valuable products or for circular reuse. This technology can be used to enable second-generation biofuels and chemicals from cellulosic residues, and plastics chemical recycling.

Research Methodology

Binary metal alloys will be used to dissolve active catalysts to obtain stable single-phase liquid metal alloy which can be used as both efficient transfer fluid and catalytic media.

Research Goals

The goal of this research is enabling circular economy by designing a new generation of metallic systems as both reaction media and active catalyst with extraordinary robustness against catalytic deactivation for sustainable chemical processing of complex feedstocks like lignocellulosic biomass wastes.
